The Men's Order of Merit is points based and combines points available from individual competitions played throughout the year (normally the twelve months to the end of September).
The winner of the Order of Merit is awarded Golfer of the Year, which is recognised on the clubhouse honours boards and has its own trophy.
Points are allocated as follows:
Monthly Medals (Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays)
The OOM medals year runs from October to September but excludes medals during the winter months when handicaps are non-qualifying (such medals also carry no entry fee).
All medals are set up in two divisions with handicap index limits: 0 to 14.9 and 15.0 to 54.0
Points are allocated in each division: 6 points for 1st place, 4 for 2nd place and 2 for 3rd place (strictly on count back).
Special note: Only the 2 best points scores from each days' medals count. (i.e. maximum 12 points from the Thursday medals, 12 from the Saturday medals and 12 from the Sunday medals).
36 Hole Major Medals (Walker Cup, President's Day, Captain's Day and Club Meeting)
These medals are set up in three divisions which vary in handicap index ranges. These are set after the draws are made to make the number of players in each division as equal as possible.
Points are allocated for the best 10 scores over 36 holes: 10 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 10th place (strictly on count back).
Points are also allocated in each division in each 18 hole round: 6 points for 1st place, 4 for 2nd place and 2 for 3rd place (strictly on count back).
Matchplay Knockouts (Winter - Priestley Cup, Summer - Abbey Shield, Club Trophy and Rabbits Cup)
Points are allocated as follows: 2 points for each round winner and 2 extra points for the overall winner.
Note: Eligibility to enter the Abbey Shield is a maximum Handicap Index of 14.9 and eligibility to enter the Rabbits Cup is a minimum Handicap Index of 15.0. Therefore no member may enter both competitions.
Charity Cup Matchplay Knockout
Points are allocated as follows: 2 points for each of the 16 qualifiers, 2 points for each round winner and 2 extra points for the overall winner.
Members' Day 2
Points are only available for Members' Day when played as an individual stableford competition. This is usually played as a mixed competition but only men qualify for points.
Points are allocated for the best 6 scores: 6 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 6th place (strictly on count back).
Tie Breaker
In the unlikely event of an overall tie in points at the end of the qualifying season, the Order of Merit winner will be decided by the following sequence:
1 - best major medal points, 2 - best matchplay knockout points, 3 - best monthly medal points.
A full list of accumulated points for the year to date will be viewable from around April, with periodic updates following. The latest standings may be viewed in the document below.
