The Rules applying to Competitions at Beauchief are slightly different for Men, Ladies and for Mixed events.
1. Rules of Play The rules of play shall be the current "Rules of Golf" published by R&A Rules Limited and the Local Rules of Beauchief Golf Club.
2. The Player It is the duty of all competitors to know the Etiquette and Rules of Play, and to report as soon as possible to the Committee any irregularities of play by participants in Competitions.
3. Club Membership No member is eligible to enter a competition after 31st January in any year until their Annual Membership Subscription has been paid.
4. Majors Matchplay Knockouts, Mixed Events and all other Trophy/Honours Board Competitions (see the list below). Entries for these Competitions will not normally be accepted unless the Member has a WHS Handicap Index and has returned at least four Beauchief Individual Competition cards since the 1st of January of the previous year. However, the Committee reserves the right to accept entries from members who do not satisfy this criteria but strictly on the basis that they cannot win the event or receive any prize.
5. Entry Before commencing play In any Stroke Play Competition Competitors must ensure that their name is entered on the Competition Entry List (by sign-in using the PSI screen, on HowDidiDo or, if not available, the paper entry sheet provided). Some competitions may also require competitors to register with the Competition Committee.
6. Tee Times In competitions where the Committee determines tee times A player must be on the tee and ready to play at the time required. All competitions must normally start on the 1st tee.
7. Score Cards All competition cards must be marked by a Beauchief member with a current handicap, signed by the marker and player and returned to the Committee as soon as possible upon completion of play. The player's Course Handicap must be on the card and the scores entered on the day using HowDidiDo or Player Score Input (psi).
8. Tied Scores Ties in Stroke Play Competitions will be decided by the best score over the last 18 holes, 9 holes, 6 holes, 3 holes or 1 hole whichever greater number gives a result. If this does not produce a result, the same procedure will be applied to each preceding 9 holes. If a result is still not obtained the winner will be decided by lot. In Match Play Competitions, a tied match must be continued (from the first tee) until a hole is won.
9. Playing Groups Stroke Play Competitions may be played in two, three or four ball groups.
10. Prizes No Member shall be allowed to win more than one main prize in any one Club Competition. Only players with a Competition Handicap may win a prize in a competition.
11. Practice If playing in a Stroke Play Competition, a competitor shall not practise beforehand on the Competition Course except within the designated practice areas.
12. Monthly Medals The minimum number of Competitors to constitute a bona fide Men's Monthly Medal shall be 15.
13. Buggies and Caddies Buggies may not be used in any competition unless shown to be necessary on medical or disability grounds - prior permission needs to be granted by the Competition Committee. Caddies are not allowed in any individual competitions.
14. Measuring Devices In any Club Competition a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance. This may include a multi-functional device, such as a smartphone, but it must not be used to gauge or measure any other conditions that might affect play (such as gradient, wind speed etc.). Such use is in breach of this rule.
15. Committee The Committee shall arrange all Club Competitions and shall determine all the conditions that will apply. All Committee decisions will be final.
16. Penalties The penalty for breach of Rule 5, 6, 7, 9,11, 13 or 14 is disqualification.

15. Penalties The penalty for breach of Rules 6, 7, 9, 11, 12 or 13 is disqualification.
Alternate Day Competitions
Some Ladies competitions are arranged on alternate days, usually on Saturday and Wednesday. This is to enable those who cannot play on the main competition day (Wednesday) to participate.
The Rules applying to such competitions make clear that:
1. Players may not compete in both the Alternate and Main Days.
2. The Alternate Day must be treated as a separate competition for handicapping purposes.
3. The results of the two days will be combined for the determination of the winner(s).
General Rules
All competitions are Non-Qualifying for handicap purposes except Members' Day Individual Stablefords
All handicap allowance calculations are rounded to the nearest whole number (0.5 rounded up) except for the Abbey Cup and Dixon Bowl (see below)
Note that Major Competition Rules apply to entry into the Athorn Cup, the Mixed Shield, the Abbey Cup and the Dixon Bowl.
In Stableford competitions, players off white tees need 35 points to 'play to handicap', those off yellow tees need 36 points and those off red tees need 36 points.

The partnership's handicap is calculated using Egolf handicapping calculator (60% lower Course handicap plus 40% higher course handicap). Then 0.65 is added for 50% CR adjustment and allowance is rounded to whole number. Play off own tees, choose one drive, then alternate shots.
Dixon Bowl
Foursomes
Partnerships are given 50% combined Course handicaps. Then 0.65 is added for 50% CR adjustment and allowance is rounded to whole number. Alternate shots and drive from own tees on alternate holes.
